Few world-class restaurants cater to the holistic needs of different travelers, such as sports, five-star room services, and cuisine. The newly opened Nihiwatu hotel on the Indonesian islands is an A-list destination that also featured on Travel + Leisure in 2016 as a top hospitality provider. The hotel is a renovation from a much less glamorous one, which cost $30 million in total to refurbish in a period of three years and launch in 2015. The purchase and rehabilitation of the facility were the genius idea of the owners, James McBride and Christopher Burch. In an interview with Business Jet Traveler in 2015, Chris stated that he is awed by the Indonesian islands and bought the place for his children. He revealed that the hotel is more than just a revenue generating activity. It is a job provider for the locals on the islands. Additionally, a percentage of the restaurants’ donations go to the Sumba Foundation, and helps the marginalized people on Sumba Island.
Nihiwatu is located on the Sumba Islands and has 27 private villas, including Chris Burch’s private villa, the Raja Mandela, which has four other villas. The villas have plunge pools that overlook the Indian Ocean. The hotel has two bamboo trees which are connected by bamboo bridges. The main treehouse has an infinity pool and a vast living room. The hotel’s compound has a broad theme of the Sumbanese culture, with Ikat prints, local woods, and Sumbanese antiques. Waterfalls located on the land have spas at the foot of the water. There are also new spas at the beach with professional and expert staff. Sporting activities available through Nihiwatu include surfing, hiking expeditions, boat riding, horse riding, and swimming. Chris and James have plans to open similar restaurants in Nicaragua and Costa Rica
